U.S. Coast Guard suspends search for missing Ontario air ambulance
What happened
The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for six people who were aboard an Ontario-based air ambulance that went missing off the coast of Nantucket while flying from Bermuda to Boston.
Prior to the suspension, search crews covered approximately 2,840 square miles and located a debris field in the area where the aircraft disappeared early Saturday.
Rear Admiral Matthew Lake described the decision to end the search as difficult.
Why it matters
The suspension of the search marks the end of active recovery efforts for the six individuals, including four Canadians, who were on the medical flight when it encountered potential electrical issues and storm conditions.
Context
The missing aircraft was a medical transport jet carrying a patient, an escort, and four crew members.
