Allahabad High Court Quashes NSA Detention of Activist Aakriti Chaudhary

What happened

The Allahabad High Court has quashed the National Security Act (NSA) detention of activist Aakriti Chaudhary.

The court ordered that Aakriti Chaudhary be paid Rs 5 lakh in compensation, to be recovered from the salaries of the officials responsible for her detention.

Why it matters

The court criticized the Uttar Pradesh administration and specifically Gautam Buddha Nagar District Magistrate Medha Roopam, holding that she violated her oath of allegiance in the matter.

By ruling that the invocation of the NSA was arbitrary and vague, the court highlighted a lack of credible evidence linking the activist to allegations of inciting violence, stone-pelting, or arson.

Context

Aakriti Chaudhary's detention was originally connected to a workers' protest that took place in Noida in April 2026.
